This week Saint Luke’s Church Fontainebleau received the following email from the President of the Scripture Union whose material we use in our Sunday School.  It is excellent teaching material and we often learn so much ourselves in preparing the lesson. The words from Amos 8 V 11 are a challenge to us all as Christians and surely we must take heed and use every opportunity to proclaim the “good news” of the Gospel if we want people to come to Christ and know how life life changing that can be.

Greetings in the name of Jesus!

Thank you for your support of Scripture Union! You are playing a vital role in connecting people of all ages to the message of the Gospel.

As I spend time at church and diocesan gatherings around the US, I am reminded of the challenge of our work from the prophet Amos:

“I’ll send a famine through the whole country. It won’t be food or water that’s lacking, but my Word. People will drift from one end of the country to the other, roam to the north, wander to the east. They’ll go anywhere, listen to anyone, hoping to hear God’s Word—but they won’t hear it” (Amos 8.11).

Could it be that in the midst of great affluence, our people are experiencing a famine – a famine of hearing the words of the Lord?  Could it be that the greatest need of today’s world could be addressed by simply sharing God’s Word?

Scripture Union has sought to fulfill this calling for 150 years – and there has never been a time of need as great as there is right now.
Here are two ways Scripture Union is fighting this famine of hearing God’s Word:

  1. Outreach to Children. Through SuperKids® and PrimeTime®, children meet Jesus and start a life-long habit of Bible reading.
  2. Bible Engagement Materials for All. Through the Essential 100 series for churches and the Discovery and Encounter with God quarterly Bible guides for adults, people are engaging in the life-changing and life-giving Word of God.

Do you agree that we are experiencing a time of famine of hearing God’s Word? Would you take time to pray and give as your heart prompts you to give to address this situation? Your support will be appreciated greatly and used wisely!

Thank you again for your prayers and support for Scripture Union!

In His Love,

Dr. Michael Staples
President
